The rig
What an object is made on
The scanner
- What it isStructured light, 0.04 mm
- What it is forBringing real corrosion in
Nothing invented looks right on its own. Every surface in the work starts as a scan of something that actually rusted, usually within a mile of this room.
The workstation
- What it isSculpt, displace, render
- What it is forBuilding and then ageing
The object is finished clean before a single mark goes on it. The ageing runs as separate passes so any century can be switched off again.
The table
- What it isOne lamp, one black scrim
- What it is forLighting the render, and the cast
The light in the file is measured off this table, which is why a print and a photograph of the bronze agree with each other.

Where the surfaces come from
Nothing here is invented from nothing. Every surface starts as something photographed or scanned within walking distance of the studio, usually on a wet morning, when the color comes up.
