The ribs came off a mooring bollard on the harbor rail at Karakoy, scanned on a wet morning when the green was at its brightest. I kept the spacing and threw the rest away.

The bloom follows the ribs because that is where water sits. The foot ring is bright because in the story I told myself while building it, this thing was picked up and put down every day for two hundred years.

It is the first object I cast in bronze for real, and the cast is now greener than the file.
