The deposits are the part people ask about. They are not corrosion at all: they are what the ground leaves behind, and a conservator spends most of their time deciding how much of it is evidence and how much is dirt.
I left more than a museum would. The one clean window is where somebody in the story decided to find out what was underneath, and stopped.
